Patient Testimonial: Johanna – Acromegaly Brain Tumor, Pituitary Gland Removal, and Deviated Septum
Johanna was diagnosed with an Acromegaly Brain Tumor, Pituitary Gland Removal, and Deviated Septum. In 2019, she was diagnosed during an ER visit. Shortly after being diagnosed with the tumor, she was also diagnosed pre-diabetic with ketoacidosis. Johanna was placed on insulin for 6-7 months prior to surgery. Johanna met with Dr. Barkhoudarian from Pacific Neuroscience Institute and Dr. Griffiths who were preparing her for surgery. She felt at ease with the idea of surgery. Johanna says,
“I’m like I am where I am meant to be. He is so thorough and so knowledgeable, I was very calm because I knew it wasn’t going to be something rushed.“
Johanna’s surgery took place November 30th, 2021. The day before surgery Johanna stopped taking insulin and until this day, has not taken insulin. Johanna says,
“It was life-changing; it is to this day. I catch myself drinking something and it taste different from what I remember. And I’m like why is this? And it’s like well I had everything fixed… I left my life in their hands and I can never pay them back for what they have given me, which is my life back. The opportunity to heal and to see my child grow, to raise her, and to live my life.”
Now, Johanna thirty-one and mother of one is excited to live her life tumor-free. She feels as though she has her life back. When asked about her experience, she says,
“The experience was so human… Dr. Griffiths is a new era of doctors that are human, that care, that sit, and listen.”
