- Audiometric testing is performed to measure changes in hearing ability over time.

Programming

What kind of programming?

Cochlear Implant (Mapping) Programming:
- What is Mapping?
  - To set the levels of your processor so that you can hear sounds across the speech frequency range at soft conversational levels.
  - To make speech and environmental sounds comfortable to listen to.
  - The first map will be made at a soft level to keep you comfortable. The sounds from the cochlear implant may be different, but over time as you listen, we will be able to increase the sound and overall sound will become clearer and more understandable.
- In the beginning, older children or adults who get implants say that sounds are not “normal.” Some say they feel pulsations or hear beeps or whistles. With time and practice (therapy), the brain learns to interpret and make sense of these sounds and recognize sounds, words, and sentences.
