Infant and children with hearing loss should encounter appropriate diagnostic and intervention services. At birth, a newborn has their first screening completed. If a baby does not pass the newborn screening, a physician does diagnostic testing. Ideally, if a baby is identified with hearing loss, they should be fit with hearing aids (if needed) and enrolled in an early intervention program. It is more beneficial to diagnose a baby by 3 months of age and enrolled in an intervention program by 6 months of age.
